Victims of Ecowest Renovations Story And Media Law

I saw on the news today about a story in regards to a company formerly known as Ecowest Renovations. From what I heard from Global News BC the company had filed for bankruptcy which left a lot of customers with incomplete work. Ultimately, making them lose a lot of money. Apparently since then the owner of the company named Sean Camp has opened up a new company called Truridge Exteriors.

Now a lot of people have banded together it seems in the form of social media in an attempt to share their experiences about the company. From what I see there are two Facebook groups called Eco west victims which you can visit at https://www.facebook.com/ecowestvictims and Truridge Exteriors – The Truth which you can see at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Truridge-Exteriors-The-Truth/280447445485375

The part that stuck out to me was how in the report it states that apparently at least two people that are part of the group, named Mitch Selman and Amanda Dougan, are being threatened with lawsuits if they don’t take the page down. In the news report though it seemed like they were staying firm regardless of these threats.

I don’t know all the details of course, but it was inspiring to hear that other people try to use social media in these scenarios as well. The legal system is one reason that holds me back from fully being able to tell my story for example which in many ways is silly. Although, my scenario is a little different where because it went through a court case I can share all of the documents and what was said in court. However, to my knowledge I am still gagged from discussing about the inner workings which is a pain.

Like for this story, as an outsider I would be highly interested in hearing the facts in an openly public manner. None of this potential intimidation by lawyers or the cost of the court system that can potentially stop people from uncovering the truth. Kudos to you guys for trying to get your story out there and hopefully one way or another all the facts will be thrown out for the public to make an informed and factual decision on the matter.

Reading That Trinity Western Law University Story

I was reading this news in the media recently about how there was this law school called Trinity Western University that has a program that teaches law. From what I gather the school apparently has some kind of personal conduct pledge that states students are restricted to sex between a man and a women. Because of that the law society voted to blacklist the school and essentially making it an unaccredited institution to study law. This was the first video I saw when looking it up:

I am no lawyer, but from what I gather from reading everything essentially that code of conduct is perceived as discrimination against gay people. So I suppose in theory if you allow people to practice law who have those kinds of beliefs then they will be say the future judges of the country and will push those ideologies in their rulings as well. Course the other argument is in Canada people have the freedom of choice to believe in what they want and that doing this is violating that right.

You know what was the scariest thing of reading this news? It wasn’t so much the whole discrimination issue but rather it just feels like the whole legal system is designed where it’s like a clique club. Essentially, it’s almost like a bunch of private corporations that have a stranglehold on the market where they get together and deem what they think is best for the industry. You would think an important issue like this should require the public’s input.

I don’t know enough about this case in general to really make an educated conclusion. But if the whole notion of this blacklist is that it protects say the general public from a questionable judge or lawyer I personally think in a way it’s a smokescreen to the real issues of preventing things like that. Case in point with my experience, about four different judges each producing extremely different results.

This is an over exaggerated and in some ways a ridiculous example, but in theory if we took say the most racist, foul mouth and sexist person in Canada and have him/her sitting as a judge shouldn’t a case be all about the facts anyways? Basically, isn’t a judge supposed to throw all that personal stuff aside and just focus on the facts? If the judge was impeccable at analyzing the facts and applying the law to it does the other stuff matter? Example, should I care if the person is straight, gay or prefers to be say a meat eater or vegetarian?
Unless you tell me flat out that is not the case as every judge has say an extreme bias in some way which is for some reason acceptable. That would sure open up a can of worms though. This whole story just makes me think how there is not enough public education and input about the whole “legal industry” as a whole to truly make it designed for the people.

That Jian Ghomeshi Case For $55 Million

I am pretty sure everyone has been hearing about Jian Ghmeshi who was a Radio host for CBC. CBC has recently fired him and Ghomeshi is claiming it was a result of details of his private sex life. Because of all this, he is suing the CBC for $50 million dollars. I was thinking, how in world does one justify $55 million dolars in that scenario even if everything was true? I was then watching an interview with an employment lawyer who was stating that he is not entitled to $1 and that this will never get to court.

I had to laugh at this a little as it made me think of my case when I took Johnny Ho to court. Essentially, as you know he actually tried to counter sue me for over $200,000+ through the BC court system. Pretty much I was told by lawyers that it was so ridiculous that there is no way it should even get through to trial. But as you can see with the court process I documented, it all becomes a gamble on which judge you get as the first trial conference judge essentially thought everything had merit to keep going.

So maybe this case will be handled more diligently due to all the media scrutiny, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually does make it through the trial despite what expert lawyers say. I am already cringing at how much tax dollar it takes for this too.
